Week 5

Blue Moon Waterfront Grille

This is restaurant is open from May until late September. This is because, it is one of Nashville’s three floating restaurants and it sits on the marina of the Cumberland River. They offer a nice selection of options on their menu, however, their tacos are a big favorite.

Their tacos are full of flavor, light and delicious and makes you wish there was room for one more. The atmosphere is delightful as you sit on the water and watch paddle boarders and a variety of boats float by as the restaurant sits at the entrance of the marina.

Go early and schedule a time to go paddle boarding or go out and head out on a pontoon boat. When you return from your aquatic adventure stroll down the dock and take some time for a meal at Blue Moon Lagoon & Waterfront Grille.

Their drinks are a little high, but their appetizers are worth the price. This is a fun spot with a vibrant atmosphere that makes you want to stay all night. If you decide to go for brunch, don’t worry about the sun as their open deck seating area is covered. Not sure what to try on the menu, I highly recommend their fish tacos, they are always perfection.

Week 4

 Local Taco

This little taco shop first started in Nashville and has expanded beyond their initial location. Now they can be found in Brentwood, just south of Nashville and in East Nashville. I went to their location in Brentwood, and loved everything about my time there.

They had a great outdoor seating area and inside the windows above the table opened up to the sky. It gave this great illusion of outdoor seating without having to be outside.

They offer a variety of tacos from korean bbq, vegetarian, hot chicken and my favorite the southern fried. Along with their tacos they also have a variety of side items that consistently compliment any variety of tacos on their menu.

Fun, fast and friendly service this has been a spot for locals for years. Their queso is always delicious, their margaritas will give you a swift kick and with enough of them, will make your Uber driver question your morals. (it is still worth it!)

Anything you order on their menu is going to be delicious. If you are that torn, go for the fish and the southern fried, yum! Local Taco offers a hip, fun, relaxed spot is what one is seeking this is the place.

I’m thankful we have Local Taco, they always make my day better.

Week 3

Baja Burrito

Baja Burrito

This is a local favorite that has been around for years for a reason, it is amazing. They do well in anything you order, if you are uncertain, go for their burrito, but only IF you are hungry!! Their burrito is built in front of you and I am always amazed at their folding skills to get everything tucked in so well.

Not ready for a burrito, then hit them up for their fish tacos. This is a place for perfection when it comes to their fish tacos. It may spoil experiences at other taco places who cannot do the fish taco so well.

Squeeze a little of that lime over it and that is all this taco needs. A tiny bit of zest to add to an incredibly flavorful taco. They have been consistent with this particular taco for years.

Never have I ever been disappointed by this place. They do get busy, and it is not uncommon for there to be a line. Yet, their staff is like taco and burrito making ninjas, they bust on through. Even when it seems no table will ever open up, the universe works in the favor of those who choose to dine here. Somehow a table somewhere will magically pop open for the next person to sit down.

Try their fruit tea for something different. This is a beverage that cannot be found anywhere else.

Go hungry, leave satisfied from a delicious meal of tacos surrounded by random and fun items on the wall and the ceiling. Not  only is the food good, but the friendly staff will make you want to come back for more.

Week 2

Freebirds Burrito

I had a steak taco and a carnita taco. When I bit into the steak taco I regretted not getting both of them steak. A great bite with a lot of flavor. It has been cooked well, wasn’t too chewy, not too tough, just the right kind of cut of steak for a taco.

When I tried the carnita, my concern vanished. The type of flavor that gushes with the spices and flavor that made this a great carnita taco.

Their guacamole surprised me for a simple little spot it does well with a guac that is not saturated with onions. I found myself scraping the sides of the little bowl to make sure I got it all!

A little off the beaten path unless shopping in the Green Hills area of Nashville. Relatively easy to get in and out, as it is close by a light that tends to run long, but not horrible.

Week 1

51st Deli

Can I do tacos at a different place once a week for a year in Nashville? Is it possible? I’m not sure… but I am about to find out. I’m taking to the streets to find and eat at a different taco place once a week for a year.  Join me in my journey & when you are out and about try one of these wonderful and delicious places.

The name may not scream ‘taco’, but I promise you this location knows tacos.  They have the best breakfast tacos and Mexican breakfast burrito in town. 51st Deli is located on 51st Ave and is located in an area of Nashville called the Nations. It may not look super fancy, but this place is a favorite of locals and often has a line. The staff is quick, friendly and you will move right along. No hour long wait here!

What you will find along with quick service is a down home kind of breakfast taco. It comes with the ingredients you order with nothing funky added on top. I love the flavor of their chorizo and it mixes well with the potatoes and eggs.

If you are accustomed to sloppy, tacos dripping with sauce, these may surprise you. These need very little sauce to add flavor to the folded goodness called a taco.

These are a favorite of mine on a Sunday morning as I eat in a nearby park. I love the flavor and how filling they are after eating only two or three. They hold me over whether I am off to work or heading out to go paddle boarding. Ready to start your day right? Head over to 51st Deli for any of their breakfast or deli items. You can thank me later.
